Garnet Williams Community Centre
Garnet Williams Community Centre is right in Springfarm Yorkhill on Clark Ave with ice rinks for skating and hockey league games, a gym and huge indoor swimming pool, and lots of classes you can take ranging from dancing to martial arts. It backs on to a large park called Yorkhill Park. The area also has another park called Winding Lane Park.
Thornhill Community Centre
The Thornhill Community Centre offers a dedicated youth space, twin ice rinks with a heated viewing platform, a therapy pool, squash courts and a cycle studio. The community centre also contains a gym, a dance and wellness studio, and a large hall that can hold up to 500 people.
The Thornhill Seniors Club is also attached to the Thornhill Community Centre. The Thornhill Seniors Club is a 5,000 square foot space that houses a TV lounge, a full kitchen, a café, a snooker room and 3 large activity rooms. Through this space the club offers 90 activities 7 days a week to suit every taste. The seniors club also runs a wide range of special events throughout the year that include dinners, dances and BBQs.
Thornlea Pool is located just north of the community centre and features a swimming pool as well as a gymnasium. It offers a wide variety or programs as well as swimming lessons for all ages throughout the day.

North Thornhill Community Centre
The North Thornhill Community Centre provides residents with a host of different health, fitness and recreation options. A spring/summer and fall/winter recreation guide provides a schedule and handbook for the various programs available.

In addition to the recreation guide, the community centre offers facility rentals. All the community centre’s facilities may be rented for business meetings, parties or sporting events. The North Thornhill Community Centre is also home to a wide range of educational and instructional programs, as well as organized and drop-in sports for all ages and abilities.
The North Thornhill Pool which is part of the community centre offers a wide range of programs and swimming lessons for all ages as well as public and drop-in swims. Some of the pool’s main features include:
- 25 metre – 6 lane lap pool.
- Family change room.
- Whirlpool with ramp access.
- Timing system and a viewing gallery.
- Aerobics studio.
- Free babysitting (mornings only).
- Cycling studio.
Thornhill Community Centre Branch
Thornhill’s public library branch contains over 80,000 items that can be checked out and returned using the library’s efficient self-service stations. The library also has a public photocopier, quiet study spaces and wireless internet services. The library offers programs for both children and adults.
Thornhill Village Branch
Set in the picturesque village of Thornhill, this public library contains over 30,000 items ranging from books to magazines as well as DVD’s and CD’s. Some of the services include:
- CNIB Library access.
- Internet search service and electronic database.
- Wireless internet connection.
- Interlibrary loans and ordering.
Thornhill is unique because it encompasses both the city of Markham as well as the city of Vaughan. Both cities are home to many community centres, swimming pools and ice arenas. All the centres are within proximity to the Thornhill area and can be accessed by Thornhill residents.
